Trance Dance is a unique blend of body movement, healing sounds, dynamic percussive rhythms, transformational breathing techniques and the innovative use of a blindfold or bandana – together stimulating a ‘trance’ state that promotes spiritual awakenings, mental clarity, physical stamina and emotional well-being.
Dancing Between Reality and Dreams
The trance dance is very much like having a waking dream. All the dynamics of a dream are in the dance. The difference is that, in dreaming, experts say we dream around 300 times each night. We remember pieces of one of the dreams.
The Dance as an Elongated Dream
In trance dance, you have the opportunity to have an elongated experience of the dream. I think in life we sleep more because we need to dream than simply for fatigue. We sleep because we’re tired, but we also sleep because we live in a linear world, and our minds function more in a nonlinear way.
Transforming Linear Experiences
We need to transfer or translate right-angle linear experiences into something nonlinear. When you trance dance, you do that transformation.
The Impact on Sleep Patterns
I’ve noticed over the years that people who trance dance a lot report that they sleep less. I think that is related to dreaming. There’s less of a need to dream because the dream happens in the dance.
This is directly related to dreaming.
